Conventional IOL's don't correct astigmatism, but for the 20% of cataract surgery patients with significant astigmatism, there is new hope for brighter, crisper vision. Alcon's Acrysof Toric IQ lens is the world's leading astigmatic (also called toric) intraocular lens and has recently been approved for even higher levels of astigmatism. Patients accustomed to wearing very thick glasses for astigmatism now have new hope to significantly reduce and sometimes eliminate their need for distance glasses. Our results so far have been way above expectations, with a few patients even able to see 20/20 without glasses. It is more common to be in the 20/25 to 20/40 range which is good enough to drive without glasses. These new IOL's represent the state of the art in reducing astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery and we are proud to offer them to our patients.
