Dr. Emily Hopman is excited to be back and serving the people of the Space Coast. Dr. Hopman was born in Cocoa Beach and grew up in Merritt Island, gaining a love of Optometry by shadowing and becoming an optometric technician in high school. She attended the University of Central Florida, where she received her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Sciences. She graduated in May of 2021 from the inaugural class of Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Optometry, finishing in the top 10 of her class. She was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society, and was honored with multiple clinical distinction awards. She also continued her passion for helping the community by co-founding a local chapter of SVOSH, which provided free education and eye care to impoverished and special needs populations. She presented a poster at the Academy of Optometry Meeting in 2020 on her research in Educators’ Awareness of Signs of Visual Deficiencies in Students. She completed her residency at the Orlando Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Ocular Disease with focus in Primary Care and Geriatrics. Here she learned to fit specialty contact lenses, work with patients who suffered Traumatic Brain Injuries, and help patients with low vision improve their quality of life with low-vision devices. Dr. Hopman is passionate about caring for the geriatric population, as well as managing and treating ocular diseases. Dr. Hopman is a member of the Florida Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry. Outside of work, Dr. Hopman enjoys dancing, reading, watching her nieces and nephews, and spending time with her husband, David.
